The primary intention of the Progress series of compilations and festivals (www.rx-tx.org/progress) is to improve the level of information exchange, networking, distribution and touring possibilities within the electronic music scenes of East European countries. For that reason the compilation is accompanied by booklet Ð rich with information about artists, labels and music collectives from Central and Eastern Europe.
The first manifestation of this idea was the 2003 release of the Progress: The Trieste-Vladivostok CTM.03 line compilation. The project was initiated in conjunction with the Club Transmediale festival from Berlin and comprises a selection of works by artists from EE countries who were invited to participate in the GO EAST program of CTM.03 festival.
This new compilation is a continuation of that idea and does not tend to be the ultimate overview of what is going in Eastern European electronica. It is a sample Ð one of possible ones - exposing just the high peak of the iceberg of multitude of sounds, aesthetics, creative approaches and production strategies that co-exist in the diverse new music scenes of Eastern-European countries.
We tried to embrace this diversity as much as it is possible to achieve that in 70+ minutes, so don’t get too upset if lyrical sound ambients and sublime micro-grooves get confronted with noisy abstract hip-hop or activistic dada-techno. This is a challenge for aesthetic purists as well as for music adventurers!
